Over the years I also have acquired 5 or 6 Star Yacht SY3s and a Star Yacht SY2, some with sails, some without. The sails eventually get mildewed and rot, or just discoloured, so I am having a batch remanufactured to the original Star Yachts design, complete with the stamp logo and number on the mainsail, and am also attempting to recreate the rigging.

Start small. If you are a complete novice then a good tip is to start with a Solid Yacht, the SY series. There are nine models in the range from the smallest SY/00 to the largest SY/7. Always try to buy a complete example. Don't restore a yacht if you do not need to, buy a dilapidated one if you want to do this.
